Haematological Malignancies Treatment
Blood Cancer, also known as haematological malignancies, affect the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic system. Unlike solid tumors that grow in one location, blood Cancer spread throughout the body, impacting immunity, oxygen supply, and overall health.
The three main types of blood Cancer are leukaemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. These conditions can be aggressive but are treatable with modern therapies such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and bone marrow transplantation.
At Shivansh Cancer Center, Jodhpur, we are dedicated to providing advanced, personalized care for patients with blood Cancer. Our multidisciplinary team of hematologists, oncologists, and transplant specialists ensures accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and compassionate support.
Types of Blood Cancer
Leukaemia
Leukaemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow, where abnormal white blood cells grow uncontrollably and crowd out healthy cells.
Types of Leukaemia
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) – common in children but can affect adults.
- Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) – rapid-growing, mostly in adults.
- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) – slow-growing, often in older adults.
- Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) – linked to a genetic mutation called the Philadelphia chromosome.
Symptoms
- Persistent fatigue and weakness
- Frequent infections
- Easy bruising or bleeding
- Fever and night sweats
- Swollen lymph nodes and enlarged spleen
Lymphoma
Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which helps fight infection. It occurs when lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) grow abnormally and form tumors in lymph nodes or other organs.
Types of Lymphoma
- Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL) – characterized by Reed-Sternberg cells.
- Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) – more common, with multiple subtypes ranging from slow-growing to aggressive.
Symptoms
- Painless swelling in lymph nodes (neck, armpit, groin)
- Persistent fever and chills
- Night sweats
- Unexplained weight loss
- Itchy skin and persistent fatigue
Multiple Myeloma
Multiple myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow. These abnormal cells produce defective antibodies that weaken the immune system and damage bones and kidneys.
Symptoms
- Bone pain, especially in spine or ribs
- Frequent fractures
- Anemia and fatigue
- Frequent infections
- Kidney problems
- High calcium levels leading to nausea or confusion
Causes and Risk Factors
- Genetic mutations (e.g., Philadelphia chromosome in CML)
- Family history of blood Cancer

- Weakened immune system or autoimmune diseases
- Viral infections such as Epstein-Barr virus or HIV
- Age and gender (some blood Cancer are more common in older adults or men)
