Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer begins in the colon or rectum and is one of the most common gastrointestinal Cancer. It often develops from precancerous polyps that can be detected and removed early through screening. Symptoms include changes in bowel habits, blood in stool, and abdominal discomfort. With timely diagnosis, it is highly treatable.

Symptoms

  • Blood in stool or rectal bleeding
  • Persistent constipation or diarrhea
  • A feeling of incomplete bowel movement

Risk Factors

  • Family history of colorectal cancer.
  • Chronic conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

  • Obesity, smoking, and sedentary lifestyle.
  • Age above 45.

Stomach (Gastric) Cancer

Stomach cancer starts in the lining of the stomach and often goes unnoticed in the early stages. Common symptoms include indigestion, nausea, bloating, and unexplained weight loss. Risk factors include H. pylori infection, smoking, and diets high in salty or smoked foods. Early detection greatly improves treatment outcomes.

  • Persistent indigestion or heartburn
  • Nausea, vomiting, or blood in vomit
  • Loss of appetite
  • Feeling full after small meals
  • Abdominal pain and unexplained weight loss

Risk Factors

  • Chronic Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection
  • Smoking and alcohol consumption
  • Diet high in salty, smoked, or pickled foods
  • Family history of stomach cancer
  • Previous stomach surgery or polyps

Esophageal Cancer

Esophageal cancer affects the food pipe that connects the throat to the stomach. Difficulty swallowing, chest pain, persistent cough, and weight loss are common warning signs. Chronic acid reflux, smoking, and alcohol use increase the risk. Advanced treatments such as surgery, radiation, and targeted therapy improve survival rates.

Symptoms

  • Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Persistent cough or hoarseness
  • Chest pain or burning sensation
  • Vomiting blood or black stools
  • Weight loss and fatigue

Risk Factors

  • Long-term acid reflux (GERD) and Barrett’s esophagus
  • Tobacco and alcohol use
  • Obesity
  • Low intake of fruits and vegetables
  • Age and gender (more common in men over 50)
